EEWeb By Lauro Rizzatti (Contributed Content) | Thursday, February 20, 2020 More and more new system-on-chip (SoC) designs at leading semiconductor companies embody software algorithms conceived and developed on host computers and in earlier embedded designs. Migrating such algorithms to cutting-edge SoC projects that power up AI, deep or machine learning, high-performance compute, automotive, 5G, … Read more
Part 2 of this two-part series on designing and using a modern hardware emulation platform highlights how to become an expert in using a modern hardware emulator vis-à-vis a hardware-description-language (HDL) simulator. Lauro Rizzatti In Part 1, we reviewed the process of designing a modern hardware emulation platform. Here, we’ll look at the skills and training … Read more
This first part of a two-part series authored by two leading experts in the field of hardware emulation explores how to build a platform that meets today’s needs. Electronic Design Lauro Rizzatti & Charley Selvidge Jan 13, 2020 Unlike other electronic-design-automation (EDA) point tools, developing a hardware emulation for functional verification requires mastering multiple disciplines. … Read more

Verification Horizons INTRODUCTION There is no doubt that computers have changed our lives forever. Still, as much as computers outperform humans at complex tasks such as solving complex mathematical equations in almost zero time, they may underperform when solving what humans can do easily — image identification, for instance. Anyone in the world can identify … Read more
EEWeb Thomas Delaye, director of technical marketing in the Emulation Division at Mentor, a Siemens Business, recently studied how data could be used more effectively in chip design verification tools, such as hardware emulation. A big challenge, he discovered, because hardware emulation has a data problem, notably the large amount it generates. What follows is … Read more
